EmVision is Emtron’s log analysis application for reviewing data recorded by ECUs, displays, and PC logging. It is available via EmUpdater.
Use EmVision to open log files, compare laps, overlay multiple sessions, build custom analysis layouts, and create math channels for derived measurements. For a complete capabilities list, see EmVision Features.

The EmVision window is divided into three areas:

The title bar shows the current workspace, X-axis mode (Time or Distance), and open log files. A progress bar at the bottom indicates log loading status.

Multi-Window
EmVision supports up to four simultaneous windows. The first window is the Primary window and hosts the Workspace Explorer. Secondary windows share the same log data but can show different page layouts.
Use File → Create Window to open additional windows. Each window maintains its own pane layout and page selection.
No separate licence activation is required for offline log analysis. Network features such as log download need the PC to reach the display or ECU on the LAN.
First session
1. Open a log
File → Open Log, or drag an .elo / .elf file into the window.
Sample content may be available under the EmVision install folder (samples/logs and samples/pages when shipped with the installer).
Opening a log sets it as the reference. Progress is shown on the bottom bar.

3. Open a sample page
Select the Page Explorer tab in the left drawer.
Open a page that matches your interest (for example Boost, Knock, Track, or Traction Control).
Pages appear as tabs on the plot panes. Use Page Up / Page Down to switch tabs.
File → Export Log (requires an open reference log)
Export writes selected channels from the reference log to a file on disk. Comparison overlays are not included.

Channel Selection
When the dialog opens, no channels are selected. Choose what to export:
Use the filter box to narrow the list by name.
Tick individual channels, or click All / None.
At least one channel must be selected before Export… is enabled.
Only channels available on the reference log appear in the list. Math channels computed in EmVision may not be listed for export — export native log channels, or re-create derived values after import if needed.
Exporting
Open a log and ensure the section you care about is the reference.
Optionally zoom the plots so the visible window matches the range you want.
File → Export Log.
Choose Format and Range.
Select channels.
Click Export…, pick a destination path, and confirm.
A progress bar shows status. On success the dialog shows Export complete. Failures show an error message (for example if the destination is not writable).
Tips
For drag or circuit analysis in another tool, export CSV with speed and GPS-related channels, and match the same units you use in EmVision.
Prefer Visible window when the log is long and you only need one pass or session.
Export does not modify the original log file.

Open a log via File → Open Log or by dragging a file into EmVision. The default folder is remembered between sessions.

The Log Explorer tab in the left drawer lists all open log files and their laps.

Each lap row provides controls for comparison:

In-laps and out-laps can be set as reference or comparison the same way as flying laps.
Log Summary Bar
The coloured icons in the title bar provide quick access to the reference and overlay sections currently loaded. Lap markers use primary blue for the reference, with distinct colours for comparison 1 and 2.
Log Download
File → Log Download connects to an Emtron display (or compatible unit) on the network and lists logs available for download.
Open the Log Download dialog (EmVision refreshes the available list).
Set the Save to folder with the folder control.
Refresh if the device list looks stale.
Download individual logs from the list, or use Download all to fetch every missing or out-of-date log in one step.
Optional tools on the dialog: finish the current device log, delete all logs on the device (confirm first), and view storage used on the unit.
Downloaded .elo files can then be opened directly in EmVision. The PC must reach the display on the network (typical mDNS/hostname or configured unit URL).
Export
To write the reference log to CSV or Emtron log format, see Export Log.
Import Track File
File → Import Track File loads a .geojson track outline for use with the Track Map plot. Imported tracks appear in Settings → Track Map.
Workspaces and Pages
Workspaces
A workspace is a saved layout of pages, plot panes, and floating gauges. Workspaces let you switch between different analysis setups without reconfiguring plots each time.
Managing Workspaces
Access workspaces from:
Workspace menu — quick switch between saved workspaces
Workspace Explorer tab in the left drawer (primary window only)
Ctrl+W — workspace search dialog
In the Workspace Explorer:
+ New — create a new workspace
Click a workspace name to switch to it
Rename, duplicate, or delete workspaces from the context actions
Each workspace remembers its pane layout, open pages, plot configurations, and floating gauge positions.
Pages
A page is a saved collection of plots within a workspace. Pages are the tabs shown across the top of each plot pane.
Page Explorer
The Page Explorer tab in the left drawer shows all saved page files. Pages are stored as individual files that can be shared between workspaces.

Close a tab with the X button, or Ctrl+Q to close the selected page

Navigator Channel
The Navigator Channel is configured under Settings → General (not per page). It drives the bottom navigator strip and helps you follow a signal during playback.
Pane Layouts
EmVision supports 1 to 4 plot panes arranged in a grid. Cycle pane count with the toolbar button or Ctrl+1 through Ctrl+4.
Each pane is independent — it can show different pages and plot configurations. Ctrl+Page Up / Ctrl+Page Down moves focus between panes.
Auxiliary Page
Ctrl+` toggles an auxiliary page area above the main pane grid. This provides an additional full-width plot row, useful for a dedicated track map or lap matrix above your channel plots.
Resize the auxiliary split by dragging the divider. The split ratio is saved per workspace.
Plot Types
EmVision supports six plot types. Select the type in Layout Editor mode, from the plot’s context menu, or when creating a new plot pane.
Opening plot setup
For line and scatter plots:
Click the pencil (configure) control on the plot, or
Right-click the plot and choose Settings at the top of the menu (same dialog as the pencil).
Line Plot
The primary analysis plot. Displays one or more channels against time or distance on the X-axis.

Tip
Drag any channel from the right-hand Measurements list onto a line plot to plot it. No need to open the channel setup dialog first.

On the Events tab, Show all events draws every event in the log without picking them one by one. When it is on, the individual event list is disabled. Uncheck it to choose a specific subset of events.

Vehicle dimensions are set in Settings. Import tracks via File → Import Track File (see Opening Logs). Creating GeoJSON maps is covered under Creating a Track Map.

Open the Lap Matrix settings from the toolbar button within the plot to add channels and configure colour bands.
Layout Editor
Entering Layout Edit Mode
Click the pencil icon in the title bar toolbar to enter full layout editing. While editing:
A semi-transparent overlay appears on each plot
The plot type selector and split controls are visible
Other plots in the pane are dimmed while one is being configured
Click the pencil icon again to finish editing.

You can also right-click a plot panel and change its type, split it, or delete it without entering full layout edit mode. Use Settings on that menu for channel/setup dialogs on line and scatter plots (same as the plot pencil control).

Changing the type replaces the current plot content. Channel assignments from the previous type are not carried over.
Splitting Panes
The layout editor overlay shows directional buttons around a central circle:

Splits can be nested to create complex multi-plot layouts within a single page. Drag the split dividers to adjust relative sizes — split ratios are saved with the page.
Navigator Channel
The Navigator Channel is set once under Settings → General. It drives the bottom navigator strip and cursor preview during playback — it is not configured per page.
Maximising Plots
Each plot has a maximise button in its corner to expand it to fill the entire pane. Click again to restore the multi-plot layout.
Cursors and Measurements
Cursor
Click on any plot to position the cursor at that point. The cursor reads channel values at the selected time or distance and displays them in the Measurements panel.

In dual cursor mode, the Measurements panel shows values at both cursor positions and the delta between them. This is useful for comparing channel values at two points in a lap.
When aligning overlay laps, ’ (apostrophe) adjusts the overlay offset by the difference between the two cursors.
Measurements Panel
The Measurements panel is the right-hand drawer (F8 to toggle). It shows:
Current sector name, distance, and time at the cursor
Current lap distance and time at the cursor
All channel values at the cursor position, with units
Delta values when in dual cursor mode
Channel values update in real time as the cursor moves. Click a channel in the measurements list to highlight it on plots.
Tip
Drag channels onto plots. From the Measurements list on the right, drag a channel onto a line plot (or other compatible plot) to add it. You do not need to open plot setup first.

Distance mode is essential for drag strip analysis and distance-based channel comparison. If the log contains no distance data, distance mode and drag tools are unavailable.
Math Channels
File → Maths (or F6)
Math channels compute new channel values from existing log data. EmVision uses the same emexpr expression language as Display Studio. Expressions are re-evaluated over the open log when you apply changes in the maths dialog.

That page is written for real-time evaluation on the display (100 Hz continuous or on-event). In EmVision the same expression language is applied offline to logged samples. Prefer the syntax and function reference there; evaluation timing and display-only setup fields (Continuous / On Event, reset events) apply on the vehicle, not when analysing a log.
Using maths in EmVision
Open File → Maths (or press F6).
Organise work into groups and expressions (the shared maths config UI).
Name each expression and write an expression that references log channels by name.
Use enum lookup on status-style inputs to insert a named state’s numeric value into the expression when available.
Math channels can reference other math channels as inputs.
Close the dialog or leave it so changes push to the worker — channels update for plots and the measurements panel.
A warning indicator appears on groups or expressions that fail to compile. Fix the expression text and re-apply.

Math configuration can be shared between projects using the import/export controls in the maths dialog (formula/function files such as .elform / .elfunc where offered by the UI).
Applying and storage
Math results are not written back into the original log file.
Definitions live in the client configuration and are available in later sessions; use them with user channels when you need custom channel identity (name, units, colour).
Recalculation runs against the currently open reference (and related) log data.

User Channels
File → User Channels
User channels and user events in EmVision are client-side definitions stored with the application configuration. They let you name and style custom channels for maths, plots, and display — separate from channels that were recorded inside a log file.

Tips
Prefer built-in log channels when the data already exists in the file.
Use user channels when you need a stable custom name or presentation for analysis-only work.
Use math channels when the goal is a calculated series over the log.
Circuit and Drag Analysis

Drag Distance Markers
The Tools menu provides drag strip analysis functions. These place distance markers (60 ft, 330 ft, 660 ft, 1320 ft, etc.) on the log timeline.
Generate from Cursor
Tools → Generate drag distance markers from cursor
Places markers at standard drag strip distances, calculated forward from the current cursor position using the drag speed channel.
Generate from Trigger Channel
Tools → Generate drag distance markers from trigger channel
Automatically places markers when the configured trigger channel meets its threshold — useful for batch-processing multiple runs in a single log.
Clear Markers
Tools → Clear drag distance markers on selected section
Removes all drag distance markers from the currently selected log section (reference or overlay).
Note: Drag tools require distance data in the log. If the log has no distance channel, the Tools menu items are disabled.
Session Constants
File → Session Constants
Session Constants show vehicle setup values from the open log (weight, spring rates, and similar) and let you override them for maths “what-if” analysis. Overrides are saved with the log.
Using session constants
Open a log.
Choose File → Session Constants.
Review values from the log; change values to override them for maths in this session.
Add a channel manually when needed (picker + value).
Import / Export as YAML (same format as Display Studio Setup → Constants). Import can take several files; later files win on the same channel. Import works even when the log has no constants — it creates session-only values for maths.
